Salt Lake City's Openly Gay Mayor Marries Girlfriend In a Private Ceremony

Salt Lake City Mayor Jackie Biskupski married girlfriend Betty Iverson this week in a private ceremony.

Biskupski, who serves as the city’s first openly gay and second woman mayor, shared in a Facebook post Monday several photos of their union.

“We have always been bonded by love, but now we are joined by law,” the post reads. “We truly are stronger together.”

Performed by the director of the National Center for Lesbian Rights, Kate Kendell, the ceremony came soon after a mass resignation from the Mormon church that weekend over the church's stance on LGBT rights.
