Tootsie is coming to Broadway, and we couldn't be more excited. The Dustin Hoffman–led cult-classic gender-bending Academy Award–winning movie will raise its curtain at the Marquis Theatre in New York on March 29, 2019, but will first begin previews in Chicago in September.
The movie follows Hoffman as he struggles to find acting work, until he resorts to dressing like a woman (Tootsie), and eventually finds love and national fame.
Santino Fontana will star in the show alongside Lilli Cooper, Sarah Stiles, John Behlmann, Andy Grotelueschen, Julie Halston, Michael McGrath, and Reg Rogers.
It will be interesting to see how the writers fine tune the story to fit our modern-day sensibilities when it comes to gender identity.
