Hawaiian Airlines is celebrating the one year anniversary of flying the first interisland turboprop aircraft, ‘Ohana by Hawaiian.'

Tapping into Hilo-based fashion designer Sig Zane and his son Kuhao, the duo pulled inspiration from Hawaiian Airlines’ interisland route map as motivation for the aircraft design.

Three patterns of kapa, the traditional Hawaiian fabric, were weaved together as one design representing ancestry, bird in flight, prow of a canoe and family. Ideal for travelers seeking to island hop, ‘Ohana, the Hawaiian word for family, is Hawaii’s newest turboprop operation offering daily flights between Kahului, Maui and Molokai; Kahului, Maui and Kona, Hawaii Island; and Kahului, Maui, and Hilo, Hawaii Island.
