Millions celebrated in Berlin this weekend, marking the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Cold War-era, nine-mile Berlin Wall.
Revelers packed Brandenburg Gate on Sunday, listening to speeches from Chancellor Angela Merkel and former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev, who's known as the father of reunification. Then, 8,000 lighted helium balloons that lined the route of the Berlin Wall were released into the sky. There were dozens of events throughout Berlin to mark the reunification of the city, and Germany; check out some Instagram reports below.
The Berlin Wall was erected in 1961 to seperate Communist East Berlin from democratic West Berlin. Over a hundred people died trying to cross the wall before it was torn down in 1989.
