Uber's 'Ride-Pooling' Service Arrives in NYC
If you can get over Uber's bro-culture issues, the San Francisco-based ride-sharing company has a new service you may love: the UberPool.
Now available in New York — it's already in San Francisco and Paris — UberPool allows riders to opt for other passengers in their car to bring down prices (think of it like sharing a cab). Users can bring on two nearby passengers, heading in their direction, of course, per ride request. UberPool is available on Apple's iOS smartphone platform, and is coming to Android on Monday.
UberPool is available throughout the boroughs and, most importantly, at city airports. For any New York local or traveler, getting home to Manhattan or Brooklyn from JFK is an arduous process via subway, and expensive in a cab (and vice versa). LaGuardia doesn't connect to the subway system and a cab from there requires a good chunk of change to get to the heart of the city.
