Spa: Fetch Club
Like a full-service gym, this slick 13,000-square-foot facility (pictured above) in New York City?s Financial District caters to canines with a bevy of upscale offerings: far-infrared sauna, fitness room with treadmills and trainers, Tensui purified water, Dead Sea mud masks, aromatherapy, and a skylit park with grass—yes, all for dogs. They can also dine on organic human-grade Pooch Club chow, veggie or omnivore. 85 South St., New York City; FetchClub.com
Check-in: Canine Turndown Service, Jumeirah Essex House
Plenty of high-end hotels allow dogs, but do they offer custom-sewn embroidered fleece blankies and treats baked by an in-house pastry chef? Or Wagwear sleeping igloos and fashion collars on loan? All for free? Didn?t think so. 160 Central Park South, New York City; Jumeirah.com
Pack: Musher?s Secret
Summertime temps make sidewalks and beach sand scorch. Protect tender paws with an all-natural wax balm that?s 100% safe to eat and won?t leave stains on your carpet or furniture (it?s absorbed into the pads). Great for winter, too. $14-$35, MushersSecret.com
Shop ?n? spa: Tailwaggers
Both the Hollywood and West Hollywood?adjacent locations of this salon/pet store emphasize holistic treatments like citrus-suffused hydrotherapy and the all-important anal gland expression, plus clips by a Groomer Has It champion. Blueberry, oatmeal, coconut, and wheat grass feature in add-on treatments. Not L.A.-based? Its online armory stocks shippable musts like raw food kibble, recycled plastic chew toys, organic bedding, biodegradable pickup bags, and green tea kitty litter as well as a furry GNC?s worth of pet supplements. 1929 N. Bronson Ave., Hollywood; 801 North Fairfax Ave., Los Angeles; TailwaggersPets.com
Tip: At-home Acupressure
According to Joshua Yaghoobian of Towne House Grooming (288 Eighth Ave., New York City; TowneHouseGrooming.com) acupressure points can calm and relax pets and easily be applied at home:
• Rub circles lightly on the tips of ears
• Stroke the front and back of both legs and feet
• Press lightly at the end of the neck, right between the shoulder blades or top of the nasal bridge, between the eyes. Right above the dewclaw is also effective.
Supplement: Vitaglo Dream Coat
An Ellen-approved (she co-owns the company) mixture of wheat germ, garlic, and cod liver oils plus anise provides essential fatty acids to hydrate skin and coat from within. Safe for cats, dogs, and birds. $15.49, HaloPets.com
Salon: Bow Wow Meow
When the fur?s flying in all the wrong directions, tame it along with scraggly nails and fuzzy teeth at this popular Nob Hill groomer. Hair did, now complete the look: Priced "basic" to "luxe," a bounty of niche fashion options abound in the attached pet boutique. Cashmere sweater and shades, my pet? 2150 Polk St., San Francisco; BowWowMeow.net
