Inns across the Golden Gate Bridge

Our Editor in Chief, Ed Salvato, and his team know gay travel, and they prove it by answering your questions (click here and ask away!) This week: Inns across the Golden Gate Bridge.

My dear friends are getting married at Marin Art and Garden Center in Ross, Calif. My boyfriend and I are in our late 40s and early 50s. It will be our first weekend out of town after two months of dating. We are looking for a bed and breakfast that is quiet and romantic. I would like to make this weekend special but keep the cost reasonable so a very small bed and breakfast would be fine. I would be most grateful if you could offer some suggestions and advice.
It?s only around 30 minutes? drive from the Castro to Ross, so you have a great choice of San Francisco B&Bs within easy reach. Our top recommendation is the Parker House, the Castro's luxury gay inn, comprising a pair of stunningly restored Edwardian buildings with charming, sunny grounds (rates from $139). Alternatively, a great staff, reasonable rates, and a central location are among the many attributes of the excellent Willows Inn B&B where rates start at $99.

If you?d prefer to save time and gas and stay on the north side of the bridge, gay-adored Joie de Vivre hotels have two inns in Mill Valley, 15 minutes? drive from the wedding location. These two Marin County gems, the 25-room Mill Valley Inn (rates from $189) and 49-room Acqua Hotel (rates from $169) offer complimentary breakfast buffets, views of Mount Tamalpais, and a beautiful bayside setting. The Mill Valley Inn also has a complimentary evening wine hour.
