Gay-friendly Israel
My partner of 37 years, a very dear friend, and I have been talking about going to Israel. How gay-friendly it is there?
Tel Aviv is the center of Israel?s gay scene -- with new bars, gyms, saunas, and all-hours parties appearing almost monthly and the city?s tolerant vibe continuing to thrive unchallenged. The city also has a gay beach.
An article from the Fall issue of The Out Traveler said, "This summer marked the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the state of Israel, the first modern Jewish nation, the Middle East?s first parliamentary democracy, and perhaps the only country in the region where a viable, visible, and vocal LGBT culture not only exists but also thrives. ? Israel has emerged as a land of unlikely gay-straight alliances and unusual cultural contradictions, and it?s unexpectedly becoming a gay tourism mecca."
