Austin, Texas
For true Texas flavor—literally—hit the New Year’s Eve Smokeout barbecue dinner at Banger’s Sausage House and Beer Garden, then head to A*FAB Austin’s annual bash, which recently benefited the Wright House Wellness Center. If you’ve booked a room at the slick Hotel San José, you can nurse your hangover with apple fritters from Jo’s next door.


Savannah, Georgia
The Savannah Riverboat Cruises are a unique Georgia treat on New Year’s Eve (opt for the booze cruise if you’re celebrating sans kids). Nearby Tybee Island’s fireworks roar at midnight. After that, head to Club One, home of the fabulous Lady Chablis, of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil fame.
