With LGBT-specific microsites rapidly becoming standard issue for major tourist destinations, the UK has recently jumped on the travel trend by launching VisitBritain.com/Rainbow. To celebrate, there is even a tempting sweepstakes on their homepage through May 31st for a trip for two to London and Manchester!
London sells itself -- and has it's own gay and lesbian microsite to help -- but Manchester is actually a rising star of UK LGBT tourism replete with a gay travel microsite too and a deeply rooted, long-standing local gayborhood and one of Europe's best Prides.
The best of gay UK, however, has to be the International Gay and Lesbian Football [Soccer] Championship that the country will be hosting in late August -- which I actually just learned about by clicking around the VisitBritain.com/Rainbow site. [Note: the leggy footballer above is not, to the best of my knowledge, connected to anything queer in the UK.]
That's the boon of LGBT microsites: rather than hunting through page and pages for ideas on what do on vacation, information on local arts, culture, nightlife and events of LGBT interest is generally frequently updated and easily accessible on these sites. More, some such sites also publicize special LGBT promotions by hotels, airlines and package tours!
