Last-Minute Valentine's Day Getaways

Last-Minute Valentine's Day Getaways

AmEx Travel’s Curtis Kowalski gives us his four-destination plan for a winter romance.

Austin, TexasAustin's an eclectic city that is particularly wonderful for the fun-loving, creative-type couples who enjoy live music and know how to have a good time.

>STAY: Hotel San Jose in the city or the Lake Austin Spa Resort, a tranquil lakeside resort just outside the city.

>RELAX: Spend the day at the LakeHouse Spa, where you can choose from more than 100 different treatments.

>EAT: There is no place like Stubbs BBQ...it?s a must-have while in Austin!

>SEE/DO: The vibrant live music scene -- there are so many venue options suitable for all music tastes.

Check out more to do in Austin's East Side, particularly during SXSW.

Ft. Lauderdale, FloridaAlways a great choice for a beach getaway, Ft. Lauderdale particularly shines in February when the weather is fabulous. There?s a reason it?s the 7th Gayest Destination in the United States.

STAY: The Ritz-Carlton on Fort Lauderdale Beach overlooks the gay-popular Sebastian Street Beach.

RELAX: Spa Atlantic at The Atlantic Resort & Spa is just a few blocks away and offers tempting treatments for two like the Couples' Play Date, a mud bath ritual allows you to be creative and bond with each other.

EAT: Truluck's boasts some of the best stone crabs in South Florida, and all of their seafood is incredibly fresh. For an oceanfront experience, Casablanca Café is cozy and romantic and the food will not disappoint.

SEE/DO: Peruse the shops and galleries on Las Olas, enjoy one of the many different shows at the Broward Center for Performing Arts, or take a ride on the water taxi -- the best way to see the beautiful waterfront homes and hotels and maybe a manatee or two!

Sante Fe, New Mexico The southwest?s artiest enclave is an unexpected getaway for those who appreciate the beauty of the natural desert surroundings but also want plenty of options for cultural and dining experiences.

>STAY: Sante Fe really has quite a few amazing gay friendly accommodations options. Ten Thousand Waves is a Japanese-inspired mountainside resort that is very intimate and has a world-class spa.

>RELAX: Indulge in a treatment at the Ten Thousand Waves Spa. It's truly a destination spa with full amenities plus Japanese-styled zen.

>EAT: Have dinner at Aqua Santa, which sits on the Sante Fe River and is perfect for a fine dining experience in a cozy atmosphere, or at Geronimo, where the consistently good "Global French Asian" maintains its top restaurant status in the city.

>EAT: The art scene is very extensive in Sante Fe, with hundreds of galleries around town ready to be discovered. For the more active, hiking the Tent Rocks together can be fun.

Check out our Santa Fe City Guide for more top restaurants, bars, shopping, and hotels.

Provincetown, MassachusettsIt might be off-season in P-town, the country's 20th Gayest Destination, but with a dip in business there?s an equal surge in romance. Think roaring fire and crashing waves on misty dunes -- and extra money for champagne and chocolate.

>STAY: The Brass Key B&B is within walking distance to all the action on Commercial Street and very luxurious, housed in a collection of 18th and 19th century buildings.

>RELAX: Book a facial and massage or one of the holiday specials for couples at Blú Day Spa.

>EAT: Make reservations at the Bistro at Crowne Pointe, which overlooks historic Provincetown and serves modern American cuisine with a focus on fresh seafood.

>SEE/DO: The Atlantic House (also known as the A-House) is a popular dance club all year long or take in some jazz music at Vixen at Pilgrim House.
