Iconic singer Cher will headline Sydney's 40th Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras this march with a closeout performance. The 71-year-old icon has hinted at her participation with a tweet that read: "Where am I going in March!?" Followed by an announcement on the Australian Radio Network that said Cher would be coming to Syndey in March (though this announcement was quickly taken down because it broke an embargoe on the story), it seems like the gay-icon is out of the bag.
This year's 40th anniversary LGBT celebration is set to be the biggest yet with over 10,000 participants due to organic growth over the years, but also this year's historic passage of gay and lesbian marriage. So many have applied to march down Oxford St. that organizers were forced to reject applications due to safety concerns.
Cher is not unfamiliar with performing for gay prides, she previously opened New York's Pride in 2013 after the release of her last major album. [SMH]
Out Traveler was there in 2015, check out some amazing pictures of the celebration.
