Austra’s new video for the single “Utopia” imagines a not-too-distant future. Apparently, minimalist design never goes out of style. This future also includes a protein source slightly squirmier than some would prefer.
The track is featured on Austra’s upcoming album, Future Politics, which was announced with the release of the video. The third in the Canadian act’s discography, it calls for radical hope, imagining a future utopia to replace society’s approaching decline. It sees the apocalypse as avoidable, with the human race responsible for its own continuation.
“Not just hope in the future, but the idea that everyone is required to help write it, and the boundaries of what it can look like are both fascinating and endless,” said Katie Stelmanis, the lead vocalist of Austra. “It’s not about ‘being political,’ it’s about reaching beyond boundaries, in every single field.”
