Our new feature highlights a place you should be paying attention to now. Our latest suggestion is Palm Springs, a California desert oasis is gearing up for one of its biggest months ever.
For the uninitiated, Palm Springs is a sleepy, geriatric place, filled with golf courses and oppressive heat. For those who know it, Palm Springs is an LGBT-friendly paradise, packed with crystalline pools, amazingly preserved mid-century architecture, high-minded food, and year-round festivals that appeal to many gay travelers. April is the height of Palm Springs' event season, with the lesbian party Dinah Shore Weekend; White Party, the circuit party to end all circuit parties; indie- and EDM-music festival Coachella, as well as the country equivalent known as Stagecoach. If you don't have hot tickets to any of these events, there are plenty of year-round things to do and see in P.S., such as the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, the Spa Resort and Casino, the pools of the Ace and Saguaro hotels, the Follies, and the gay bars and clubs of Arenas Road. See some of the treasures of the desert below and read more about Palm Springs here.
