QUEST10NS: Face Off Competitors Jason Henricks and Nora Hewitt

Nora tells us what medicine cabinet staple offers "endless possibilities."

Face Off, the Syfy network’s competition series that explores the world of special-effects make-up, has two LGBT contestants - Nora Hewitt and Jason Henricks - among the artists vying for this season’s top prize. In a special edition of our 10 Questions (because we like to shake things up a bit now and then), we asked Jason and Nora each five questions to answer as themselves and the same five questions to answer as their Face Off competitor.

Nora Hewitt has had a love for the movies, especially horror flicks, as long as she can remember. This passion and a life-long creative flair led her to follow her passions at Tom Savini’s Special Makeup Effects Program, from which she graduated in January of 2015.

1. Where did you go on your last trip?
I went to Providence, Rhode Island for my Face Off premiere.

2. What three items are essential for any travelers shave kit/make up bag?
Hair products (pomade, hair spray, a good sturdy comb.
Perfect Matte (Vacation means photo ops! No one likes to look greasy and shiny.)
Q-tips. Endless possibilities.

3. What famous landmark - the Statue of Liberty, Michelangelo’s David, one of the presidents on Mt. Rushmore, the Sphinx, one of the Easter Island heads - would you most want to transform with special-effects make-up and how?
Lady Liberty. I think I would make this make up into a political statement, in regard to the class system and poverty in America.

4. What is the most fun thing to do/see in your hometown?
My hometown is in rural northwestern Connecticut. It’s known mostly for being a scenic destination. We have a beautiful changing of the leaves every fall, great fly fishing, hiking, hunting, camping, and other recreational out door activities.

5. Where will you go on your next adventure?
The great wide open. I’m embarking on a road trip, from Connecticut to California in the next few months. I’m moving to California and I figured, “How many times will I do this in my life?” I might as well make a badass adventure out of it while I can!

Nora, as she imagines Jason would answer:

6. Where did you go on your last trip?
Back home to visit family.

7. What three items are essential for any travelers shave kit/make up bag?
Perfect Matte by Kryolan, razors, sunblock.

8. What famous landmark - the Statue of Liberty, Michelangelo’s David, one of the presidents on Mt. Rushmore, the Sphinx, one of the Easter Island heads - would you most want to transform with special-effects make-up and how?
I would have to say Mt. Rushmore. I think Jason would do wonderfully delightful drag renditions of these former presidents.

9. What is the most fun thing to do/see in your hometown?
Jason and I are both from very small rural towns. So I'm assuming that at home it's a lot of outdoor recreation activity once again. The wonders of nature, and the keen sense of not being surrounded be too many people.

10. Where will you go on your next adventure?
Somewhere colorful and exciting with the hubby.

Jason Henricks hails from a small town in Eastern Oregon, and currently lives in Los Angeles with his husband. He is a 2012 graduate of Cinema Make-up School, and was named the RAW: San Francisco Makeup Artist of the Year at the 2013 RAW Awards.

1. Where did you go on your last trip?
Road trip from Los Angeles to Oregon/Idaho with my husband to visit my family. Long drive, but some beautiful scenery up through NorCal and Nevada. LOVE road trips, especially when you have time to stop and see the sights along the way.

2. What three items are essential for any travelers shave kit/make up bag?
Sunscreen, first and foremost. Nothing ruins a good time like an unexpected sunburn. Secondly, I always carry a small grooming tool just in case, and I'm absolutely in love with twissors (the perfect blend of tweezers/scissors). I'm in my mid 30's and sometimes the random nose or ear hair sneaks up on you. Lastly, I always have Kryolan Perfect Matte in my shave kit. It helps smooth the skin's appearance, kills that unflattering shine, and even helps moisturize. Plus, a little goes a long way.

3. What famous landmark - the Statue of Liberty, Michelangelo’s David, one of the presidents on Mt. Rushmore, the Sphinx, one of the Easter Island heads - would you most want to transform with special-effects make-up and how?
The Sphinx! It's the perfect subtle canvas to work with. Give that poor fellow a nose to be proud of!

4. What is the most fun thing to do/see in your hometown?
Hmmm... This is tough since my hometown is really, really tiny and there isn't much there other than dirt roads and ranches. Hopping on a 4wheeler or horse and just taking in the high desert would be my suggestion. Few things compare to a Harney County sunset on a summer night.

5. Where will you go on your next adventure?
My best friend just moved to Hawaii, so the plan is to visit him sometime in the next few months and have that coincide with our belated honeymoon. I've always wanted to go and can't wait to go hiking!

Jason, answering as Nora:

6. Where did you go on your last trip?
A road trip to see family in Rhode Island and Connecticut, if I remember correctly.

7. What three items are essential for any travelers shave kit/make up bag?
I'd have to go with hair gel, hair clippers, and a back-up skinny tie. Nora knows how to always look her dapper best.

8. What famous landmark - the Statue of Liberty, Michelangelo’s David, one of the presidents on Mt. Rushmore, the Sphinx, one of the Easter Island heads - would you most want to transform with special-effects make-up and how?
I could see her tackling ALL the presidents on Mt. Rushmore, turning it into the epic zombie monument we never knew we were missing. Sculpting prosthetics on that scale seems like a totally normal thing she would do on a Saturday in her spare time without breaking a sweat.

4. What is the most fun thing to do/see in your hometown?
We didn't talk much about our hometowns, but I'm pretty sure she mentioned spending time out on a lake or reservoir.

5. Where will you go on your next adventure?
Los Angeles! (That's totally just wishful thinking, since I miss her so much!)
