Unless you’ve been living under a rock -- or you don’t spend most of your work day looking at every passing Internet fab -- these “Shit People Say” videos have surely been on your radar. There’s a simple brilliance to the concept: Take specific character archetypes, have them say on camera what they’re known for saying and wait for laughter to ensue. It almost always does; we’ve cackled at clips about what old folks say, what gay folks say, and what old, gay folks say. The latest trend we’ve noticed in these shorts, though, is location-based humor.
Whether you’re looking to laugh at what happens in West Hollywood, or chuckle at a Canadian guy the likes of which we’ve never encountered, these are the videos for you.
With shoutouts to Adele, Grindr, and the Real World franchise, this "Shit WeHo Queens Say" video could easily apply to gays everywhere -- unlike the bonkers cuntiness of our favorite disasters, Hunter and Jessica. Only the tank tops and the reference to the website WeHo Confidential keep it grounded in L.A.
This isn't a gay vid, but the guy who made it (Eliot Glazer) is responsible for the fun gay web series "It Gets Better-ish." That said, "Shit New Yorkers Say" is pretty on point: it nails the inherent pretentiousness that comes with living in the city that never sleeps and doesn’t ignore our lust for carbs and real estate.
North of the border, guys are saying things and also wearing a lot of plaid—at least in “Shit Canadian Guys Say.” They cuss surprisingly often, drink beer, and shoot snot rockets. And, yes, they also say 'eh.' The Hunks of Toronto, this ain’t.
Don't like country music but love Dolly Parton? Ever taken a photo op in front of the house from Designing Women? Sick of dating guys who dip? Well, you might be a Southern gay—find out, watch ‘Shit Southern Gays Say.”
