501 BAR AND GRILL

The former restaurant will open in six weeks as a safe space for the entire LGBTQ+ community.

A Michigan businessman and his wife are turning a local restaurant into a gay bar.

Phil and Ardele Shaltz told MLive.com they are transitioning the existing 501 Bar and Grill in Flint, Michigan, into The District, a safe space bar and nightclub for gay, transgender, lesbian, and bisexual folks.

ā€œWe are transitioning to a safe space for all members of the community,ā€ Shaltz told MLive.com.

Shalz said the transition should be finished and the new bar ready for its grand opening in about six weeks. The 501 Bar and Grill will remain open during the transition, and Shalz plans on keeping all the current staff.

The 501 Bar and Grill is located at 500 Saginaw Street. You can learn more about the 501 Bar and Grill at www.501barandgrill.com and on Instagram @ 501_bar_and_grill.
