OutTravelers could care less about gay festivals, fairs, and events when they plan their vacations—but just barely, according to a report from LGBT marketing firm Community Marketing.
Instead, the 5,700 LGBT consumers who participated in the survey said warm weather, cultural institutions, and beaches are the biggest factors when choosing a destination. June to September is the most popular times to travel.
The findings that most distinguish gay travelers from the others are their spending habits—they spend 57 percent more than other travelers, on average—and that they consider an “LGBT-friendly” reputation as the third-most important factor when choosing a hotel, behind price and location. The hotels most mentioned as gay-friendly by those surveyed were Hilton, Kimpton, Marriott, W Hotels, and Hyatt.
