For Pride month, cosmetics brand Lush teamed up with
AllOut
to launch a viral campaign around a
#GayIsOK
glittery-gold soap bar. Profits were to be directed towards LGBT charities like AllOut, and the aim was to get people the spread the message that homosexuality was beautiful and acceptable, especially at a time when it is still criminalized in many parts of the globe. A whopping 100,000 bars were sold online and in 80 stores around the world, bringing in over $420,000, exceding goals.
Of the proceeds, about $78,000 has been allocated for AllOut's global efforts, but that still leaves a sizable chunk of money. Lush has, therefore, issued a call for LGBT organizations to submit applications for grants up to $15,000. In a statement, Andre Banks of AllOut said:
"Time and again we’ve seen how, with enough resources, activists do incredible work to change laws and shift hearts and minds towards full equality. Too often, activists are isolated and underfunded, but the #GayIsOK campaign has brought a massive new audience to their work and also crucial funds to help them succeed."
