Apply Now for your New York State Marriage License

"Dah da da dah, here comes the Pride”. Today is a momentous occasion. The Empire State is kicking equality into gear, and all are invited to the reception: starting now, LGBT couples can apply for marriage certificates, with the first to be issued on July 24 when the law will officially take effect. And once the license has been received, just wait a little while longer (24 hrs) and before you know it you'll be hand-in-hand, at the end of the aisle, saying those magical words “I Do”.

So besides the deadlines and waiting period, what else is there to know about same-sex marriage in New York State?

If New York City is your home or destination wedding of choice, check out Bloomberg's latest marketing campaign: NYC I Do. There's a FAQ, deals, lists of vendors and venues, and more, which will evolve as the city attempts to brand itself as the gay wedding destination and not just America's best gay travel destination.

Next Magazine, NYC's bar rag and listings guide, also has an excellent and comprehensive Gay Wedding Guide, chock full of tips from local experts. With a focus on deals, ShermansTravel.com's Gay Travel blog has a good start listing those that have popped up around the state (even the world) in honor of the Marriage Equality Act. And check back here as we start compiling our own.

Till then, look out world, a new species of Bridezilla is coming to town. Hooray!
