International Travel to U.S. For Fully Vaccinated Visitors Set to Resume Nov. 8

International Travel to U.S. For Fully Vaccinated Visitors Set to Resume Nov. 8

The White House announcement was warmly welcomed by the airline and hotel industries hard hit by the travel restrictions.

The White House announced last Friday fully vaccinated foreign visitors can resume travel to the U.S. starting November 8.

“The US’ new travel policy that requires vaccination for foreign national travelers to the United States will begin on Nov 8,” Kevin Munoz, White House assistant press secretary, posted to Twitter.

International travelers seeking to enter the U.S. will need to show proof of vaccination and a negative test result before flying. An unnamed White House official told CNN “all FDA approved and authorized vaccines, as well as all vaccines that have an Emergency Use Listing (EUL) from the WHO will be accepted for air travel.”

The official added similar policies would apply for those entering the U.S. via land or sea as well.

“These travelers are required to be prepared to attest to vaccination status and to present proof of vaccination to a CBP officer upon request,” the official said.

The news was warmly welcomed by the travel industry. Nick Calio, president and CEO of Airlines for America, noted U.S. airlines had been advocating to “safely ease travel restrictions” and said reopening the border was an important first step.

“The full reopening of international travel is also critical to reviving economies around the globe, reinvigorating communities, and supporting millions of jobs in the U.S. and abroad,” Calio said in a statement.

“We applaud President Biden’s move to reopen America’s doors to international, fully vaccinated visitors from around the globe,” Chip Rogers, president and CEO of the American Hotel & Lodging Association, said in a statement, calling the move “a step in the right direction.”
