Winter 2004 | Dakhla Oasis, Egypt

Christopher Roehrs took this stark shot at an oasis 200 miles inland from the Nile River. The area looks much the same now as it did a decade ago. "When I took the photo I'd just completed many months of teaching English in Tokyo and was looking for some solitude. The Dakhla Oasis hosts several Nubian villages, and, as you can see from the photo, technology takes a backseat to nature. I was able to spend many unhurried days bathing in the area's many hot springs, wandering around the dunes on camelback, and enjoying the intense canopy of stars each night."

Send Us Your Souvenirs
We at The Out Traveler would like to print your travel photos in the magazine and online. If there are images of your friends, family, and lovers, we may need to have you send paperwork in order for us to reproduce your photos.
To have your photos appear in the magazine, we need either high-resolution color scans (300 dpi), or you can send copies of your photos. Please do not send originals, since we may not be able to return them to you.
To send photos for display on the Web site, lower resolutions (72 dpi) will work.
