Will Your UK Travel Plans Turn To Ash?
The recent – and ongoing – ash cloud from Iceland's Grimsvotn volcano is threatening to cause problems for flights in and out of the UK and Europe.
And while airlines are expressing some confidence that the disruption won't be as bad as last year, you would be well advised to be prepared if you're expecting to travel over the next few weeks.
First, check the fine print of your travel insurance. Most airlines will provide a refund or alternative flight if they cancel, but you'll want to see if it also covers lost accomodations and car hire fees. If not, get in touch with those people directly and find out their own policies: they might well offer an option for different dates, too.
Also, some operators may exclude cover if you booked AFTER the eruption started, on the grounds that you knew about it.
